April 22nd is Earth Day, and our class is already learning about ecology and the 5 Rs... Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repair, and Responsibility.  We are discovering the connection between all living things, and what we can do, even as second graders, to make a positive difference in our world.  I have shared two of my own reuse inventions with the students, and shown them how to complete the flow chart instructions,  The students are very excited to design their own reuse invention, and bring it to school on Friday, April 22nd where we will display and present our inventions. The flow chart form to write the steps in making their reuse invention will be coming home Wednesday, April 13th. I have suggested to the students that they save a plastic tub for this project, but if you have something else in mind, that is okay, too!  Have fun creating and discussing ecology!

Second Grade will be learning about some very famous people the week of April 11th, as we explore the genre of biography.  Presidents, inventors, authors, leaders, and many others will be highlighted as we read about their lives.  We will then turn the spotlight onto ourselves and write our own (auto)biographies! 
We need your assistance in completing the timeline form that your child will bring home on Monday, April 11th.  Please return it on Wednesday, April 13th.  On Friday, April 15th, we will share the story of our lives with each other.
